Welcome to Tasker Milward Library.
Tucked away in the Lower School, along the corridor through the canteen, down the wooden stairs you will find a hive of activity in the library. Every day a little bit of magic happens as pupils from all year groups lose themselves in books and magazines. The library is a welcoming safe haven for quiet reading, doing homework and catching up with friends. The attached IT suite allows pupils to research using computers as well as the extensive range of non-fiction books.
The library is open every day from 8:10am, every lunchtime and after school until 4pm. The library is managed by Mrs Frost and a team of pupil library assistants.
Pupils in Year 7 and 8 are all part of a fantastic reading programme that has been recently rolled out called ‘Accelerated Reader’. Pupils choose books based on their reading level, then take a quiz on the book to earn points. The points are added together and forms compete to win the trophy at the end of term. It’s a great way for pupils to encounter a range of reading material, expand their knowledge and have fun taking quizzes and watching their points pile up.
‘Stamp Club’ takes place every month in the library. The first Wednesday of the month sees Mrs Grieves struggle in under the weight of stamps from around the world. She brings plenty of competition prizes and freebies which prove very popular. (Click PC Image)
“If you don’t like to read, you haven’t found the right book.” J.K.Rowling
“I have a passion for teaching kids to become readers, to become comfortable with a book, not daunted. Books shouldn’t be daunting, they should be funny, exciting and wonderful; and learning to be a reader gives a terrific advantage.” Roald Dahl
