Year 7

Pupils study History for two lessons per fortnight.

Content includes:

Year 8

Pupils study History for three lessons per fortnight.

Content includes:

  • The consolidation of Tudor power
  • Problems faced by the Stuart monarchs
  • Slavery
  • The Industrial Revolution and Jack the Ripper

Year 9

Pupils study History for three lessons per fortnight.

Content includes:

  • Titanic
  • The First World War
  • The rise of Nazi Germany and the Second World War
  • Aspects of the Cold War
  • Terrorism in the 21st Century

 KEY STAGE 4: WJEC HISTORY

Route A:

UNIT 1: Germany in transition, 1919-47 – 25% [1hr 15 mins exam]

Pupils will sit this exam in Summer Year 11

Content includes:

  • The rise of the Nazi Party and it’s consolidation of power, 1919-34
  • Changing life for the German people, 1933-39
  • War and its impact on life in Germany, 1939-47

 UNIT 2: Russia in transition, 1905-24 – 25% [1 hr 15 mins exam]

Pupils will sit this exam in Summer Year 11

Content includes:

  • The causes and impact of the Russian Revolutions of 1917
  • The causes and impact of the Civil War, 1918-21
  • The development of the Communist state, 1921-24

 UNIT 3: The Development of the USA, 1930-2000 – 25% [1 hr 15 mins exam]

Pupils will sit this exam in Summer Year 10

Content includes:

Changing attitudes to the race issue in the USA, 1930-2000

  • Racial inequality
  • Civil Rights
  • Progress made by black Americans

The USA and the Wider World, 1930-2000

  • Foreign policy change between 1930 and 1945
  • The USA and the Cold War
  • The role of the USA in searching for world peace since 1970

 UNIT 4: Controlled Assessment covering an aspect of British History in the First and Second World Wars – 25% [Completed in class controlled conditions]

Pupils will complete this Controlled Assessment in Summer Year 10

KEY STAGE 5: AQA History

Pupils study two Units at AS and a further two Units at A2

AS:

Unit 1B: Change and Consolidation: 50% of AS, 25% of A-Level [1hr 15 mins exam]

Britain 1483-1529 – This is the period of History from the rise of Richard III and also includes the reign of Henry VII and the early part of the reign of Henry VIII

Unit 2L: Historical Issues: Periods of Change: 50% of AS, 25% of A-Level [1 hr 30 mins exam]

The Impact of Stalin’s Leadership in the USSR, 1924-41 – This is the period of time from Stalin’s rise to power to the invasion of the USSR by Germany in 1941

 Summer term of Year 12 will include background information on the latter years of Henry VIII and the reigns of Edward VI and Mary I.

 A2:

Unit 3B: The State and the People: Change and Continuity: 30% of A-Level [1 hr 30 mins exam]

The Triumph of Elizabeth, 1547-1603 – This covers the whole reign of Elizabeth I.

Unit 4: Historical Enquiry: 20% of A-Level: 20% of A-Level [Coursework unit]

This is an independent enquiry which pupils will develop based on the topic of Anti-Semitism from 1815-1945. Pupils will be supported in developing their research and writing their enquiry through class teaching and one-to-one feedback meetings.
