EXAM RESULTS DAY 2014
This August we celebrated the best results Taskers have seen for many, many years! The number of pupils achieving 5A*-C GCSEs was the highest we have recorded and even more pleasing was the number who achieved their Maths and English GCSEs as part of these. This figure rose dramatically and was 13% higher than last year giving more pupils than ever the opportunity to apply for level 3 courses in the Sixth Form or at college. We are delighted to welcome so many (more than 90 students!) back to start studying their A levels. We also had very pleasing A level results with a rise of 10% of grades A*-C. Every student who wanted to, has been accepted at their choice of University and we wish them all well as they leave to begin their studies over the next few weeks. There are also a number of students who will be joining the armed forces, starting apprenticeships or going to the College to continue with studies. A few students are delaying their plans as they will be taking a gap year and travelling to destinations all over the world. Pob Lwc to all of you, we wish you every success!

OPEN ENSEMBLE WINNERS 2014
Pembrokeshire Schools Music Festival The festival took place on Saturday 15th November at Sir Thomas Picton School. Pupils participated in the many competitions during the day and gained pleasing results. The school orchestra also performed in the evening concert, and gave a very impressive performance that was warmly received. Thanks must go to all of the pupils who took part and to the music and peripatetic music staff who worked so hard to prepare pupils for the Festival. Tegan Havard, Daniel Jones and Megan Thomas of Year 13 won the Open Ensemble competition and performed in the evening concert.
NATURAL HISTORY MUSEUM TRIP 2015
Geology students from Year 11 and Year 12 visited Cardiff’s Natural History museum to walk through geological time. Highlights were the dinosaur bones and the giant crystals. Past students from Taskers then showed our students around the Earth Science (Geology) Department at Cardiff University. Our Year 10 Geology students had their first field visit to study the relationship between age and weathering of the gravestones at St Thomas a Beckett Church. There are some excellent examples of granites and sandstones to view. Dan Phillips said” This inspired me to learn more about the rock types”. These activities were supported by Pembrokeshire Earth Science Schools Trust (PESST) and Dr Andrew Armour.
Y12 ENTERPRISE STAND 2014
Year 12 held their annual Enterprise Fair October 2014. There were many items on sale including fruit smoothies, toasted sandwiches and you could even buy a mask featuring your favourite teacher! The Enterprise Fair is an important element of the Welsh Baccalaureate (WBQ) qualification. Pupils have to work in groups to plan their stall, making sure that they stay within published guidelines whilst maximising their profits.
Y7 DANCE TASTER 2014
Year 7 participated in dance taster sessions, provided by Laura from Gofal Celf-Arts Care.  The theme was contemporary and everyone enjoyed the sessions.
